Privacy policy
Last updated October 25, 2026
The short version. You don't need an account to read anything here. We collect basic visit data to run and improve the site, our ad and analytics partners use cookies, and the poll remembers your device so you can only vote once. We don't sell your name, email or contact details, because we don't ask for them. You can turn off personalized ads and limit cookies, and the details are below.
1. Who runs this site
Rumor & Record (rumorandrecord.com) is operated by Smile Space LLC, based in Florida, United States. In this policy, "we," "us" and "our" mean the operator. "You" means anyone who visits the site.
2. What we collect
Information collected automatically
Like almost every website, our server and our partners receive technical information when you visit:
- Your IP address and the approximate location it implies (city or region, not your street).
- Your browser, device type, operating system and screen size.
- The pages you view, how long you stay, what you click, and the page or search that sent you here.
- The date and time of each visit.
Poll votes
When you vote in a poll, we add your answer to an anonymous running total. Your browser remembers that it voted, so the same browser can't vote twice. To limit repeat voting, our server also keeps a scrambled, one-way version of your network address for the rest of that day, then deletes it. It's never stored with your answer, and we never ask for your name.
Information you send us
If you email us, we receive your email address and whatever you write. We use it only to reply and to handle your request.
What we don't collect
We don't ask for your name, phone number, home address, payment details or government ID. There are no accounts on the site at this time.
3. Cookies and similar tools
Cookies are small files a website stores in your browser. Similar tools include local storage and pixels. We and our partners use them to:
- Run the site: remember that your browser has voted in a poll, and settings such as your cookie choices.
- Measure the site: count visits and see which files people read.
- Show ads: deliver ads, limit how often you see the same one, and, where allowed, show ads based on your interests.
Visitors in the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom and Switzerland will see a consent banner and can accept or refuse non-essential cookies before they're set. Anyone can change cookie choices at any time through the "Privacy choices" link in the site footer, or block cookies in their browser settings. Some parts of the site, like the poll, may not work without them.
4. Advertising
The site is free to read because it shows ads. We use Google AdSense to serve them.
- Third-party vendors, including Google, use cookies to serve ads based on your prior visits to this site or other websites.
- Google's use of advertising cookies enables it and its partners to serve ads to you based on your visits to this site and/or other sites on the internet.
- You can opt out of personalized advertising by visiting Google's Ads Settings. You can opt out of some other vendors' personalized ads at aboutads.info/choices.
You can learn more about how Google uses information from sites that use its services at policies.google.com/technologies/partner-sites. Opting out of personalized ads doesn't remove ads; it makes them less tailored to you.
5. Analytics
We use Google Analytics to understand how many people visit, which files they read and how they found us. It uses cookies and receives the automatic information listed above. We don't use it to identify you personally. You can block it with Google's opt-out browser add-on or through your cookie choices.
6. Embedded videos and posts
Some files show videos or posts from TikTok, YouTube, Instagram or other platforms. They don't load until you tap them. Once you do, that platform receives information about your visit and may set its own cookies, under its own privacy policy. If you're signed in to that platform, it may connect the visit to your account.
We also load fonts from Google Fonts, which receives your IP address when a page loads.
7. How we use information
- To run the site and keep it fast, secure and working.
- To count poll votes and stop repeat voting.
- To understand which files people read so we know what to write next.
- To show ads that pay for the site.
- To answer your messages and handle requests about corrections or your data.
- To comply with the law and protect the site from abuse.
8. Who we share it with
We share information only with the service providers that help run the site:
- Our web host, hosting.com, which stores the site, the anonymous poll counts and the server logs.
- Advertising partners, such as Google, as described in section 4.
- Analytics providers, as described in section 5.
We may also share information if the law requires it, to protect our rights or someone's safety, or as part of a sale or transfer of the site. We don't sell personal information for money. However, letting ad partners use cookies for personalized ads can count as "selling" or "sharing" personal information under some US state laws. You can opt out of that, as described below.
9. Your choices
- Personalized ads: turn them off through Google's Ads Settings or our "Privacy choices" link.
- Cookies: change your choices with the "Privacy choices" link, or block or delete cookies in your browser.
- Global Privacy Control: if your browser sends a Global Privacy Control signal, we treat it as a request to opt out of the sale or sharing of your personal information for that browser.
- Do Not Track: there's no common standard for this signal, so the site doesn't respond to it beyond the choices above.
10. Your privacy rights
Depending on where you live, including California, other US states with privacy laws, the European Economic Area and the United Kingdom, you may have the right to:
- Know what personal information we have about you and get a copy.
- Ask us to correct or delete it.
- Opt out of the sale or sharing of your personal information, and of targeted advertising.
- Object to or restrict certain uses, and withdraw consent you've given.
- Complain to your local data protection authority.
Because we don't collect names or accounts, most data we hold is tied only to a cookie or device and is held mainly by our ad and analytics partners. Email us using the address below and we'll help with any request. We won't treat you differently for using these rights. We may need to verify a request before acting on it.
For visitors in the EEA and UK: we rely on your consent for advertising and analytics cookies, and on our legitimate interest in running and protecting the site for server logs and security. Some of our partners may process data in the United States.
11. Children
This site is written for adults. It isn't directed to children under 13, and we don't knowingly collect personal information from them. If you believe a child under 13 has sent us personal information, contact us and we'll delete it.
12. How long we keep data
- Server logs: up to 90 days, unless needed longer to investigate abuse.
- Poll votes: anonymous totals are kept for as long as the poll is on the site. The scrambled network address used to limit repeat voting is deleted after one day. The record in your browser stays until you clear your browser data.
- Emails: as long as needed to handle your message, then deleted within 12 months.
- Ad and analytics data: kept by those partners under their own retention settings and policies.
13. Security
The site uses HTTPS encryption, and we limit who can access our hosting and partner accounts. No website can guarantee complete security, but we collect very little, so there's very little to expose.
14. Changes to this policy
If we add features that collect more information, such as accounts, comments or a newsletter, we'll update this policy before they launch and change the date at the top. Significant changes will be noted on the homepage.
15. Contact
