Terms of use

The short version. Read, share and link to anything here. The files present what believers and skeptics argue, without a verdict, so treat them as a starting point, not as advice. Don't copy whole files onto your own site, and tell us if we got something wrong.
1. Agreeing to these terms
These terms apply to rumorandrecord.com ("the site"), operated by Smile Space LLC ("we," "us"). By using the site, you agree to them. If you don't agree, please don't use the site.
2. What the content is
Each file tells the story of a popular theory and lays out the strongest case made by people who believe it and by people who doubt it. We don't declare a winner. That means:
- Presenting a claim is not the same as endorsing it. Arguments in a file reflect what each side says, not what we've concluded.
- The content is for general information and entertainment. It isn't legal, medical, financial or professional advice.
- We cite sources and work to get facts right, but we can make mistakes, and sources can change. Check the original sources before relying on anything important.
3. Rex Marlowe and June Okafor
Rex Marlowe and June Okafor are characters written for this site. They aren't real people, and their backstories are invented. Their statements are written by us to present each side's strongest arguments, using the sources listed in each file. Any resemblance to a real person is unintended.
4. Who owns what
- The writing, design, logo, characters and character portraits on the site belong to Smile Space LLC.
- Photos and documents from other sources belong to their creators and are used under the licenses listed on our credits page and next to each image. You may reuse those under the same licenses.
- You may quote short passages with a link back to the file, and share links anywhere. Please don't republish whole files or large parts of them without permission.
5. Polls and other features
Poll results show how site visitors voted. They're not scientific surveys and don't represent the general public. Please don't try to manipulate votes with bots, scripts or repeated voting. We may remove votes we believe are fake.
6. Acceptable use
You agree not to:
- Disrupt the site, overload it, or try to get into parts you're not meant to access.
- Scrape or copy the site in bulk, or use it to train AI models, without our written permission.
- Use the site to harass or threaten anyone, including people mentioned in a file.
- Use the site for anything illegal.
7. Links and embedded content
Files link to outside sources and may show videos or posts from other platforms. We don't control those sites or their content, and linking to them doesn't mean we endorse them. Their own terms and privacy policies apply.
8. Corrections and copyright complaints
If you think a fact is wrong, email files@rumorandrecord.com with the file, the claim and a source. We review every report and note significant corrections at the bottom of the file.
If you believe something on the site infringes your copyright, send a notice to files@rumorandrecord.com. Include the work you own, where it appears on the site, your contact details, a statement that you believe in good faith the use isn't authorized, a statement that your notice is accurate, and your signature. We'll remove material that infringes.
9. No warranty
The site is provided "as is" and "as available." To the extent the law allows, we make no promises that it will be accurate, complete, uninterrupted or error-free.
10. Limit of liability
To the extent the law allows, we aren't liable for any indirect, incidental or consequential damages arising from your use of the site, and our total liability for any claim is limited to $100. Some places don't allow these limits, so they may not apply to you.
11. Governing law
These terms are governed by the laws of the State of Florida, without regard to its conflict-of-law rules. Any dispute will be handled in the state or federal courts located in Broward County, Florida, unless the law where you live requires otherwise.
12. Changes
We may update these terms. The date at the top shows the latest version. If you keep using the site after a change, you accept the updated terms.
