RUMOR & RECORDNEWSLETTER
Get new case files by email
Rumor & Record lays out the case for and the case against, with a source for every fact, and leaves the verdict to you. The newsletter brings it to your inbox.
What you’ll get
- One case file per email, new or from the archive: the story, the evidence and what the record shows.
- Rex and June’s competing takes, the believer’s case and the skeptic’s, side by side.
- What readers voted, with the number of votes, when there are enough to be worth sharing. Votes are opinions, not evidence.
We plan on about one email a week. Rex and June are fictional hosts written for this site; the sources are real.
A few to start with
- MKUltra In 1953, ten government scientists sat down after dinner at a cabin on a Maryland lake. Someone had spiked the liqueur. Nine days later, one of them was dead.
- Dyatlov Pass In February 1959, nine hikers in the Ural Mountains cut their way out of their own tent and walked into the snow, some of them without shoes. None of them came back.
- D.B. Cooper On the night before Thanksgiving 1971, a man in a dark suit jumped out of a Boeing 727 over Washington state with $200,000. Nobody has seen him since.
- Roswell In 1947 the Army announced it had a flying disc. A day later it was a weather balloon. In 1994, the Air Force said it was most likely a balloon from a secret spy program.
